Reid Lederer, Bob’s son and the 3rd generation family owner, joined Carton Service in 1995 following a career as a financial analyst and his graduation from Denison University with a degree in Economics and George Washington University with an MBA. Initially, Reid worked in business development for Carton Service the first five years with the company. He succeeded Bob as President of Carton Service and its start-up pharmaceutical contract packaging division, Pharma Packaging Solutions in 2001. Reid sold the PPS pharmaceutical packaging division in 2021 to Tjoapak.

Bob Lederer, Jake’s son started working at Carton Service at age 15 when his father bought the firm. In 1972, Bob Lederer became Carton Service president. Rapid, organic growth of customers within regulated carton markets led to significant growth and revenue increases over the next 25 years. Multiple building and equipment additions were undertaken quadrupling the size and manufacturing footprint of the firm, both in Ohio and in a new added facility in Tennessee which added a contract packaging division named Pharma Packaging Solutions (PPS) in the 1990’s.

Jake Lederer & John Havighurst purchased Carton Service with intentions to expand capacity and grow its customer base “beyond the Midwest.” Jake Lederer’s career included multiple acquisitions of packaging companies throughout his 51-year packaging career. These included:
- Great Lakes Box Company: President
- Norwalk Paperbox Company: Founder/President
- Carton Service: President
Jacob (Jake) F. Lederer, past President of Carton Service Incorporated, Shelby, Ohio, is retiring December 2, 1985, after 51 years in the folding box business. Mr. Lederer’s business career started in 1929 when he worked for USF&G Insurance Company in Cleveland while attending law school at Western Reserve University. In 1934 he was hired by Alfred R. Havighurst, President of Great Lakes Box Company as a folding box salesman. He founded Norwalk Papet Box Company of Norwalk, Ohio, in 1948 and sold it to the former Ohio Boxboard, Rittman, Ohio, which is now Packaging Corporation of America. In 1961, Mr. Lederer and John G. Havighurst bought Carton Service, Inc., Shelby, Ohio, which had been in business since 1926. He was a director of the First National Bank of Shelby for 18 years and a 32nd degree Mason since 1936.
The female-led team of Gladys Baker, Herbert Dibble and Leo Bookmyer founded Carton Service just before the Great Depression. The population of Shelby, Ohio at that time was 5,300 and it was (as it is today) primarily an industrial and farming community. The firm set out to create quality, printed folding cartons serving the health and beauty market as well as other sophisticated customers in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. Gladys and team battled through the nation’s severe economic stress to grow the firm beyond its initial sales territory footprint and they increased employment steadily for many decades. Ms. Baker led the firm as president from the 1940’s until its sale in 1961.
